Play and playfulness have caught the attention of educators all over the world. When people play, they are engaged, relaxed and challenged—states of mind highly conducive to learning. However, bringing play and school together is not a simple endeavor because of the paradoxical relationship between play and school. Play is timeless; school is timetabled. In play, children are in charge; in school, the adults set the agenda. In play, children take risks; in school, we want children to be safe. Both parts of these statements are true. How can we create a pedagogy of play that addresses these paradoxes (without resolving them) and fosters a culture of playful learning for children as well as adults? In this talk, Mara Krechevsky shares the results of the Pedagogy of Play project, a collaboration between researchers at Project Zero at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and the Lego Foundation to investigate the role of play in school.
The Power of Learning through Play in the Classroom
What does playful learning look like in classrooms and schools? In this workshop, participants will learn about the principles and practices that support playful learning, and deepen their understanding of how to design for playful learning in the classroom.

جَذب اللعب والمرح اهتمام خبراء التعليم عبر العالم. فحينما يلعب الأشخاص، يصبحون منخرطين ومرتاحين وجاهزين للتحدي، وبالتالي جاهزين للتعلُّم. إلّا أن الجمع ما بين اللعب والمدرسة ليس بالأمر السّهل بسبب العلاقة المتناقضة بين اللعب والمدرسة. فبينما اللعب لا يحدده الوقت، فإن المدرسة مقيّدة ببرنامج زمني. ففي اللعب يتولّى الأطفال زمام الأمور، أما في المدرسة، فيضع الكبار المحددات الزمنية. وفي اللعب يخاطر الأطفال، أما في المدرسة فنود أن نحافظ على سلامة الأطفال. كلا أطراف تلك العبارات هو صحيح. كيف يمكننا خلق بيئة تربوية من اللعب تُعالج تلك التناقضات (دون حلها) وتعزيز ثقافة التعلّم المبني على اللعب للأطفال والكبار على حدٍ سواء؟ ستطرح مارا كريتشيفسكي في هذا الحديث نتائج مشروع تربية اللعب، وهو تعاون بين الباحثين في مشروع زيرو في جامعة هارفرد للتعليم، ومؤسسة ليغو من أجل البحث في دور اللعب في المدرسة
