What does a learner-centered pedagogy really look like? – getting beyond the rhetoric

Many education systems are encouraging the development of learner-centered pedagogies but what does this term really mean? Is it just the latest educational fashion or is there something more substantial here? The workshop will examine the concept of a learner-centered pedagogy relating it to theories of learning and meta-learning.

By the end of this workshop participants will be able to:
- Explain the key features of a learner-centered pedagogy;
- Understand the relationship between this concept and approaches like constructivism and inquiry-based learning;
- Describe a number of meta-learning and metacognitive strategies that can be used in the classroom to support learners in their learning.
