Art is not just for an art class. By showing students how to look closely at art images, teachers will sharpen students’ visual intelligence and help them communicate more effectively. Indeed, we can employ art images in any subject area—science, mathematics, history, humanities—and these images will deepen our students’ capacity to think, wonder, and try to understand meaning in small, seemingly incongruent details. How many times and in how many ways do our lives depend on observation skills?
