Brief Description:

All teachers want students to become more self-directed learners. Project work is an effective way to teach the thinking skills of planning, decision-making, and self-evaluation that are critical in managing one’s own learning. In this session, learn to use Teaching for Intellectual and Emotional Learning, the TIEL Curriculum Design model, to plan powerful self-managed projects that intentionally help students develop a wide range of thinking and social emotional processes.

By the end of this workshop participants will be able to:
• Plan an end-of-unit project using the model Teaching for Intellectual and Emotional Learning (TIEL Curriculum Design model)
• Teach students the self-management skills of planning, decision-making and self-evaluation as part of the project
• Teach students how to reflect on their thinking and learning when they finish the project
