Without safety, children cannot learn. It is our responsibility as educators to understand the process of disclosure and overcome barriers to reporting when we suspect abuse. This interactive session will enable participants to develop shared understandings of appropriate boundaries and professional conduct, victim and offender behavior and how to work with parents and students to prevent abuse in our schools.
Presented by the International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children (ICMEC)

At the end of this day participants will be able to:
- Identify types of harm experienced by children in schools
- Locate resources that support prevention and appropriate school response to harm
- Understand our professional duty of care to keep children safe
- Identify signs and indicators of all forms of child abuse
- Understand boundary crossing (grooming) and why children don’t report abuse
- Learn research informed approaches to preventing abuse including strategies for activating student voice in abuse prevention
